About this spectacle

Each April, the meadows and ancient oak-hornbeam woodlands of the Eifel National Park and Sauerland hills are transformed by millions of wild daffodils (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) blooming in dense, sweeping carpets of yellow. Stream valleys and forest clearings fill with their sweet fragrance, and light filtering through bare spring canopy illuminates the flowers from above. The village of Monschau serves as the hub of Germany's largest natural daffodil display, with core protected zones ensuring the blooms remain undisturbed. Spring weekends bring visitors from the Rhine-Ruhr conurbation for guided bloom walks along well-trodden paths through meadow and forest. Mornings are the recommended time — low-angle light catches the petals at their finest and the scent is most concentrated before the day warms.
