About this spectacle

In the high glacial valleys of Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, spring and early summer transform steep meadows into vivid tapestries of colour. Visitors walk among purple orchids, yellow arnica, deep-blue gentians, and white narcissus spread across limestone grasslands flanked by towering canyon walls. The air carries the scent of wild herbs — thyme and mountain clover — while griffon vultures circle overhead. Waterfalls fed by snowmelt catch the morning light, and the sound of the Arazas river threading through the valley floor provides a constant backdrop. As altitude increases, the flower communities change: subalpine meadows give way to rockery species clinging to cliff ledges. The spectacle is unhurried and intimate — the Pyrenean meadows reward slow walkers who crouch to inspect individual blooms as much as those sweeping the panorama.
