Posbank Heather Bloom
Posbank's rolling Veluwe heathlands ignite in violet-purple each late summer — one of the Netherlands' most spectacular natural colour displays.
About this spectacle
Each late summer, the Posbank heathlands in the Veluwezoom National Park erupt into a sweeping carpet of purple heather. Visitors arrive to find the rolling hills smothered in Calluna vulgaris in full bloom, creating vast violet-pink waves across the landscape. The air carries a faint honey-like scent, bees hum over the flowers, and the views across the Veluwe stretch wide under open Dutch skies. Early morning light enhances the colour depth dramatically, turning the hillsides into a scene of extraordinary natural colour. It is one of the most photographed natural landscapes in the Netherlands, drawing crowds of visitors during the peak bloom window. Paths cross the heath in multiple directions, making it easy to walk among the blooms and find quieter corners away from the main viewpoints.
