Pinares de Urbión
A vast highland pine forest in Soria's Sistema Ibérico, glowing gold in autumn and rich with fungi, resinous air, and deep woodland silence.
About this spectacle
Pinares de Urbión is a vast highland pine forest stretching across the Sistema Ibérico mountains of Soria province, Castile and León. Visitors walk beneath towering Scots pine canopies where filtered light casts golden shafts through the understory, particularly striking in autumn when the forest floor turns amber and rust. The air carries a sharp resinous scent year-round, while in spring wildflowers and mushrooms emerge along mossy tracks. Streams fed by the Duero headwaters cut through rocky clearings. In autumn the forest floor erupts with fungi, drawing foragers and photographers alike. The landscape is quiet and expansive, with occasional views across rolling highland moorland. Birdlife includes species typical of Iberian mountain pine forests such as crossbills and crested tits, audible even when hidden among the branches.
