Naesosa Cedar Approach
A centuries-old cedar-lined avenue leads to Naesosa Temple, forming a green tunnel of towering trees and filtered light.
About this spectacle
The approach to Naesosa Temple in Gochang, South Korea is lined with an ancient grove of towering Korean cedar trees whose canopy forms a living tunnel overhead. Walking this path, visitors move through filtered green light in summer, golden and russet tones in autumn, and the clean sharp scent of cedar year-round. The tall, straight trunks create a cathedral-like corridor that frames the temple entrance with natural grandeur. Birdsong echoes through the grove, and the ground is carpeted with fallen needles that muffle footsteps. The transition from open road to this enclosed, fragrant passage creates a memorable sensory shift — one of the most atmospheric temple approaches in southwestern Korea.
