About this spectacle

Standing at the edge of Bridestowe Estate's fields, visitors are engulfed by a rolling purple horizon — 105 hectares of English lavender stretching across the Nabowla plateau in neat, seemingly endless rows. In the southern summer, the blooms reach peak colour and fragrance, filling the air with an unmistakable floral intensity that deepens in the cool morning light. The scale is staggering: walking the rows, the purple canopy extends to the tree line in every direction, punctuated by the hum of bees and the soft rustle of flower heads in the highland breeze. Morning visits reward photographers with dramatic low-angle light catching the purple density, with mist sometimes lingering over the plateau. The estate is privately operated, with clear access paths through and around the lavender fields. The combination of colour, scent, and geometric scale makes this unlike any other Tasmanian landscape experience.
