Jacaranda Bloom — Grafton
Every November, the streets of Grafton are canopied in a violet blizzard of jacaranda blossoms — over 2,000 trees planted along avenues and parks create one of the most concentrated floral spectacles in Australia, celebrated with a century-old festival.
About this spectacle
Each November, Grafton transforms into a violet dreamscape as over 2,000 jacaranda trees burst into bloom along the town's avenues and parks. Standing beneath the canopy, visitors are enveloped in a soft purple ceiling that filters the morning light into lavender hues. Fallen blossoms carpet footpaths and lawns in a deep violet mat, and the air carries a faint sweet fragrance. The spectacle is most arresting along the famous jacaranda-lined streets where the canopies arch overhead and meet in the middle, forming floral tunnels. The town has celebrated this annual event with a festival for over a century, lending the bloom a festive, community-oriented atmosphere. Morning is the recommended viewing time, when light is gentle and the streets are quieter, and the blossoms glow richest before midday heat causes petals to fall. The sheer density and urban scale of the planting makes this one of Australia's most photogenic floral events.
