Hwagaejangteo Cherry Blossom Road
A legendary cherry blossom tunnel in South Korea's Hwagae valley, where petals fall like snow over a winding market road each April.
About this spectacle
In early spring, the road winding through Hwagae Market bursts into a tunnel of white and pale pink cherry blossoms, their petals arching overhead and drifting down like soft snowfall. Visitors walk beneath a canopy of intertwined branches, with petals carpeting the ground and creek water glittering below. The scent is light and sweet, birdsong mingles with the rustle of blossoms in the breeze, and the filtered light creates a dreamlike, luminous atmosphere. On clear days the contrast between pale blossoms and the forested ridges of Jirisan behind creates a layered, painterly scene. The road draws couples, families, and photographers who stroll at leisure, pausing to photograph the petal-strewn path. At peak bloom the corridor feels genuinely magical — ephemeral in the way only a two-week flowering window can be.
