About this spectacle

Halubickaja pušča is a remnant old-growth forest in the Vitsebsk Region of northern Belarus, preserving stands of ancient trees that have largely escaped industrial logging. Visitors move through cathedral-like groves where towering conifers and broadleaf trees shade a multilayered understory of ferns, mosses, and fungi. The forest floor is thick with decomposing wood that supports rare invertebrates and lichens, while the canopy resonates with birdsong from species dependent on undisturbed woodland. Autumn brings rich amber and copper tones to the foliage, while spring carpets the ground with wood anemones and other wildflowers. The profound quiet — broken only by wind through high branches and the drumming of woodpeckers — defines the experience. This is a place of primeval atmosphere, dense with the layered complexity of a forest that has been left largely to its own rhythms.
