About this spectacle

Yongmeori Coast, on the southwestern tip of Jeju Island, is a dramatic stretch of eroded volcanic coastline where layered tuff cliffs plunge directly into the sea. Visitors walk along narrow ledges at the base of towering ochre and rust-colored rock walls, listening to waves crash against formations sculpted over thousands of years. The stratified sedimentary layers, tilted and fractured by volcanic forces, create an almost architectural quality — bands of color running horizontally across the cliff face. The path winds between sea stacks, sea caves, and surge channels, offering close-up views of geological forces at work. On calm days the water turns a vivid turquoise against the dark rock, while rough seas send spray across the walkway. The name means 'dragon head', reflecting the silhouette of the headland viewed from the ocean.
