From the summit of Hochries in the Bavarian Alps, visitors are treated to the dramatic spectacle of a Wolkenmeer — a 'sea of clouds' — when dense fog fills the valleys below while the peaks rise into brilliant sunshine above. Standing on the ridge, you look out across a rippling white ocean stretching to the horizon, with distant mountaintops appearing as islands.
