About this spectacle

Wailua Falls on Kauai's eastern shore is a twin-cascade waterfall plunging into a jade-green pool ringed by lush tropical vegetation. Visitors standing at the roadside lookout feel the cool mist carried on warm trade winds and hear the continuous roar of water meeting stone far below. The falls glow emerald and white under morning sunlight, and after heavy rain they swell into a thunderous single curtain. The surrounding forest hums with birdsong and the scent of wet foliage. Because the viewpoint is roadside and easily reached, most visitors linger briefly, snapping photographs from above — though those who venture down informal trails reach the pool's edge and feel the full force of the cascade's spray.
