About this spectacle

Rising above Ulleungdo, a remote volcanic island in the East Sea, Seonginbong is the island's highest peak. Visitors who make the ascent are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views across rugged cliffs, dense forests of indigenous trees, and the open ocean stretching to the horizon. The trail climbs through mist-draped woodland, with the sound of wind and birdsong replacing the noise of daily life. In winter, the peak frequently receives heavy snowfall, transforming the landscape into a stark white alpine scene rare for this latitude. Spring brings fresh green foliage and wildflowers along the trail edges. The summit itself offers a 360-degree vista encompassing the island's caldera topography and, on clear days, the surrounding sea glittering in every direction. The island's geographic isolation means the air is exceptionally clean and the sense of remoteness is profound.
