About this spectacle

Tombstone Mountain rises dramatically in the remote Tombstone Territorial Park of Yukon, Canada, offering some of North America's darkest skies far from urban light pollution. In the deep boreal wilderness, visitors who brave the chill of autumn or winter nights are rewarded with sweeping aurora borealis displays arcing overhead in curtains of green and violet. The rugged silhouette of the mountain's dark quartzite spires provides a striking foreground against the luminous sky. Summers bring the opposite extreme: near-perpetual twilight and midnight sun conditions that paint the sky in continuous soft golden hues. The silence here is profound — broken only by wind across tundra and the occasional cry of a raven — lending the experience an intensity rarely found at more accessible dark-sky sites. Getting here requires commitment, making solitude almost guaranteed.
