Todtnauer Wasserfall
97 m two-stage cascade in the Black Forest near Todtnau.
About this spectacle
Todtnauer Wasserfall plunges 97 metres in two dramatic stages down a steep gorge in Germany's Black Forest, near the small town of Todtnau in Baden-Württemberg. Visitors follow a well-maintained forest trail that winds through spruce and fir woodland before arriving at the base of the cascade, where mist rises and the roar of falling water fills the air. The upper stage drops in a slender ribbon before the water explodes into a broad fan on the lower rocks, creating rainbow effects on sunny days. In winter the falls partially freeze, forming striking curtains of ice that attract photographers and day-trippers from across the Upper Rhine region. The surrounding landscape — steep, forested slopes and moss-covered boulders — adds texture and framing for photography. A viewing platform near the base gives close access to the spray zone, making the experience visceral and immediate.
