Thi Lo Su waterfall — Thailand
Thailand's largest waterfall thunders through remote jungle wilderness near the Myanmar border — a true off-the-beaten-path natural marvel.
About this spectacle
Thi Lo Su is Thailand's largest and most powerful waterfall, tucked deep within the Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary in Tak Province near the Myanmar border. Visitors typically trek through dense jungle and ford river crossings to reach a cascade that plunges roughly 200 metres across a broad limestone cliff face, filling the surrounding forest with a constant roar and fine mist. The dry-season months between November and May reveal the falls in golden light against emerald vegetation, while the wet season swells the torrent to its most dramatic, thundering volume. Kingfishers and hornbills are sometimes spotted along the approach trail, and the jungle air carries the scent of tropical foliage and river spray. The remote setting means the surrounding limestone cliffs and pools feel genuinely wild, rewarding the effort of the journey with a sense of discovery rarely found at more accessible waterfalls.
