Shivanasamudra Falls — India
The Cauvery River splits into twin cascades at Shivanasamudra, crashing into a deep gorge — Karnataka's most dramatic waterfall spectacle.
About this spectacle
Shivanasamudra Falls is a segmented waterfall on the Cauvery River in Karnataka, where the river splits into two dramatic cascades — Gaganachukki and Barachukki — before plunging into a deep rocky gorge. During and after the monsoon season, the falls roar with tremendous volume, the mist rising high into the humid air and catching the light in shifting rainbows. The surrounding landscape is lush and green, with forested hillsides and the sound of rushing water filling every corner. Visitors stand on rocky viewing points above the gorge, feeling the spray on their skin as the river thunders below. The scale and sound during peak flow are genuinely awe-inspiring, while in the drier months the falls become narrower but reveal more of the dramatic geology of the gorge walls. It is one of South India's most accessible large waterfall experiences.
