About this spectacle

Daecheongbong is the highest peak of Seoraksan, rising dramatically above a landscape of granite ridges, dense forest, and cascading streams in northeastern South Korea. Visitors who reach the summit are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views across the rugged Taebaek mountain range and, on clear days, glimpses toward the East Sea. The trail passes through temperate forest that erupts in vivid crimson and gold each autumn, one of South Korea's most celebrated foliage events. In spring, wild azaleas paint the lower slopes pink. Summer brings lush green canopies and occasional cloud inversions that fill the valleys below the peak. Winter transforms the mountain into a world of snow and ice-encrusted pines, attracting hardy trekkers willing to brave the cold. The physical challenge of the ascent — a long, steep hike over rocky terrain — makes reaching the summit feel genuinely earned, and the silence and scale at the top stand in striking contrast to the busy trailheads below.
