Schiessentümpel
A fairy-tale waterfall cascade in Luxembourg's Mullerthal, where mossy sandstone steps and a stone arch bridge create one of the country's most photogenic water scenes.
About this spectacle
Schiessentümpel is a picturesque waterfall cascade in Luxembourg, where the Black Ernz (Schwarze Ernz) river tumbles over a series of mossy sandstone steps, collecting in a dark, mirror-still pool below. Surrounded by dense deciduous forest, the site feels tucked away and intimate — visitors hear the rush of water before they see it. The interplay of amber-tinted water, green moss, and dappled light filtering through the canopy creates a scene of quiet, layered beauty. A stone arch footbridge crosses directly above the falls, making it one of the most photographed spots in the Mullerthal region, often called 'Little Switzerland'. In autumn the surrounding beeches and oaks turn gold and copper, intensifying the colour palette. In winter, partial freezing adds ethereal ice formations to the rocks. The path to the falls is short and well-maintained, making it accessible to most visitors.
