Roque Nublo
A towering volcanic monolith in Gran Canaria's highlands, Roque Nublo pierces the clouds with panoramic views stretching to Tenerife.
About this spectacle
Roque Nublo is a massive volcanic monolith rising from the rugged central highlands of Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands. At roughly 80 metres tall and perched atop a plateau near the island's geographic heart, it dominates the skyline with raw geological drama. Visitors hike through pine-scented upland paths to reach the base, where the rock towers against sweeping panoramas of crater ridges, ravines, and on clear days, the neighbouring island of Tenerife and its volcanic peak. The surrounding landscape is cloaked in ancient lava formations, heath scrub, and sparse Canarian pine. Wind often howls across the plateau, adding an elemental rawness to the scene. The monolith itself — sometimes wreathed in cloud — gives the site its name: Cloud Rock. The approach trail rewards walkers with progressively expanding views, culminating in one of the most photographed natural landmarks in the Canary Islands.
