Raysko Praskalo Waterfall — Bulgaria
Bulgaria's tallest waterfall, a dramatic ribbon of white water crashing through Balkan mountain forest — most powerful in spring snowmelt season.
About this spectacle
Raysko Praskalo is the tallest waterfall in Bulgaria, plunging dramatically through forested Balkan mountain terrain in the Stara Planina range. Visitors follow a trail through beech and conifer forest before the roar of falling water announces the cascade ahead. The sight of the slender ribbon of white water dropping steeply into a rocky basin is striking, especially in spring when snowmelt swells the flow to its most powerful. The surrounding forest amplifies the sound and creates a cool, misty microclimate at the base. In winter the waterfall can partially freeze, forming dramatic ice formations against the dark rock face. The hike itself passes through classic Bulgarian mountain scenery, with birdsong, wildflowers in season, and distant ridge views adding to the experience.
