Ravana Falls — Sri Lanka
One of Sri Lanka's widest cascades, Ravana Falls fans across layered dark rock in the Uva highlands, dazzling with mist and monsoon-fed power.
About this spectacle
Ravana Falls plunges down a broad, tiered rock face in Sri Lanka's Uva Province, one of the widest cascades on the island. Visitors hear the roar before they see it — a curtain of white water fanning across dark, moss-covered basalt. The mist cools the surrounding air and catches afternoon light in shifting rainbows. The falls are set within a lush hillside landscape, with the road running close enough that even a brief stop rewards. During the wet season the volume swells dramatically, turning the cascade into a thundering wall; in drier months the flow thins to reveal the layered rock underneath. Monkeys are often spotted on the surrounding slopes, and vendors line the roadside viewing area. It is accessible, visually striking, and requires almost no effort — making it one of the most-visited waterfalls in Sri Lanka.
