About this spectacle

Standing atop Pikes Peak at 14,115 feet, visitors are enveloped in sweeping 360-degree panoramas stretching across the Colorado Front Range, the vast plains to the east, and layers of Rocky Mountain ridgelines to the west. The summit air is thin and bracing, often bitterly cold even in summer, and afternoon thunderstorms roll in with remarkable speed. A mix of hikers who've earned every step via the Barr Trail and day-trippers who rode the Pikes Peak Cog Railway or drove the toll road share the granite summit. The high-altitude light is extraordinary — crisp and clean in the morning, dramatic and stormy by afternoon. Snow can dust the summit in any month, and the treeline falls away far below, leaving visitors exposed under a vast, close-feeling sky. The view that famously inspired 'America the Beautiful' rewards anyone willing to brave the altitude.
