Peričnik Falls — Slovenia
Walk behind a thundering alpine waterfall in Slovenia's Julian Alps — one of the few falls in Europe you can step inside.
About this spectacle
Perišnik Falls is one of Slovenia's most dramatic alpine waterfalls, tucked into the Triglav National Park near Mojstrana in the Julian Alps. Visitors follow a well-maintained forest trail to reach the lower falls, where water crashes freely down a tall cliff face into a rocky basin. The remarkable feature here is that a carved ledge path allows walkers to step behind the falling curtain of water — an immersive, spray-drenched experience that rewards those who don't mind getting wet. The sound is tremendous up close, a constant thunder that vibrates through the rock. The upper falls, reached by a steeper path with fixed iron cables, offer a quieter vantage point above the valley. In winter the cascade partially freezes into sculpted ice columns. The surrounding beech and spruce forest shifts beautifully with the seasons, framing the white water against deep greens in summer and warm golds in autumn.
