Oxbow Bend Tetons
Where the Snake River's mirror-still bend reflects the jagged Teton peaks at dawn — one of the most photographed vistas in the American West.
About this spectacle
Oxbow Bend is one of the most iconic viewpoints in Grand Teton National Park, where the Snake River curves in a sweeping horseshoe bend that perfectly mirrors the jagged Teton Range in its still, glassy waters. At dawn, mist rises from the river's surface as the peaks catch the first alpenglow, painting the sky in shades of rose and gold. Great blue herons stalk the shallows, ospreys dive for fish, and moose frequently wade through the reeds along the bank. In autumn, the surrounding cottonwoods and aspens ignite in brilliant yellows, doubling the spectacle in the reflection. The scene changes dramatically by season — snow-dusted peaks against blue summer skies, fiery foliage in fall, and frozen silence in winter — but the reflection effect that defines Oxbow Bend rewards patient visitors at virtually any time of year.
