Njupeskär Waterfall — Sweden
Sweden's tallest waterfall drops through ancient boreal forest in Fulufjället National Park — a roaring curtain of white water in a genuinely wild Nordic setting.
About this spectacle
Njupeskär is Sweden's highest waterfall, plunging dramatically through a narrow gorge in Fulufjället National Park in Dalarna. Visitors approach through old-growth boreal forest along a marked trail, emerging to the thunder and mist of the falls — a curtain of white water crashing onto moss-covered boulders far below. The surrounding landscape shifts with the seasons: spring snowmelt swells the cascade to its most powerful, while autumn colours the birch and pine in gold. In winter the falls may partially freeze into spectacular ice formations, though access becomes demanding. The air is cool and damp near the plunge pool, and the sound reverberates off the steep valley walls. This is a genuinely wild Nordic waterfall experience — remote enough to feel earned, yet accessible to fit walkers.
