About this spectacle

Standing at the brink of Niagara Falls on the Canadian side, visitors are enveloped by a roar that penetrates deep into the chest and a perpetual mist that clings to skin and clothing. The Horseshoe Falls — the largest and most dramatic of the three cataracts — curves in a sweeping arc, sending vast curtains of water thundering into the Maid of the Mist Pool below. Rainbows form and dissolve constantly in the spray cloud, shifting as sunlight moves through the day. The sheer volume of water in motion creates an almost physical pressure on the senses: the sound is deafening up close, the spray cool and refreshing on warm days, and the vibration palpable underfoot on the viewing platforms. In winter, the surrounding landscape becomes encrusted with ice formations, transforming the falls into an otherworldly frozen tableau still in violent motion at its core. The Canadian side offers the iconic panoramic vantage point that most photographs of Niagara depict.
