La Paz Waterfall — Costa Rica
A thundering multi-tiered waterfall plunging through Costa Rica's cloud forest, where mist, emerald foliage, and wildlife combine for a spectacular natural display.
About this spectacle
La Paz Waterfall is one of Costa Rica's most celebrated cascades, tumbling through lush cloud-forest vegetation in the highlands of Alajuela Province. Visitors approach along misty forest paths where the roar of falling water grows before the falls come into view — a powerful, white curtain of water crashing into a froth-filled pool below. The surrounding canopy drips with moisture, bromeliads cling to mossy boulders, and the cool humid air carries the scent of wet earth and ferns. Multiple tiers of falls can be seen along the La Paz River, each offering a distinct vantage point. Hummingbirds and tanagers are commonly spotted in the forest margins, adding color to an already vivid green landscape. The drama of the falls — volume, sound, and vertical drop — makes this a genuinely immersive water spectacle in a richly biodiverse setting.
