About this spectacle

La Fortuna Waterfall plunges dramatically from a basalt cliff into a turquoise pool surrounded by dense rainforest. Visitors descend a steep staircase through lush vegetation, hearing the roar grow louder with each step until the full cascade reveals itself. Mist rises in cool clouds, catching the light that filters through the canopy overhead. The pool at the base is swimmable — cold, clear, and rimmed with mossy boulders. The surrounding jungle buzzes with birds, insects, and the occasional rustling of unseen wildlife. The return climb back up the stairs is strenuous but rewards visitors with views of the forested Arenal Valley. On clear days, Arenal Volcano looms in the background, adding an iconic volcanic silhouette to one of Costa Rica's most photogenic natural settings.
