Kravica Waterfall — Bosnia and Herzegovina
A grand horseshoe travertine waterfall on the Trebižat River, where emerald-green water plunges into a swimming-friendly pool amid lush Herzegovinian karst.
About this spectacle
Kravica Waterfall is a sweeping natural travertine cascade on the Trebižat River in the Herzegovinian karst landscape. Visitors arrive to find a horseshoe-shaped curtain of water plunging roughly 25 metres into a broad emerald-green pool — the mist rising off the falls keeps the surrounding vegetation lush and the air cool even in summer heat. The sound is immersive: a constant, enveloping roar that drowns out everything else. In summer the pool below is popular for swimming, and the vivid turquoise water contrasts sharply with white travertine rock and overhanging greenery. In winter the flow diminishes but ice formations and bare rock reveal the geological structure more clearly. The falls are accessible via a short footpath from a car park, making the full spectacle available within minutes of arrival. Photographic opportunities are exceptional in morning light when the sun angles across the face of the falls.
