About this spectacle

Kjosfossen is a powerful waterfall plunging dramatically into the narrow Flåm Valley in western Norway's Vestland region. Visitors typically encounter it from the famous Flåm Railway, one of the world's most scenic train routes, where the train makes a brief scheduled stop to allow passengers to step out onto a viewing platform. The falls thunder down a steep cliff face, sending mist rolling across the rocky gorge and catching rainbows in bright sunlight. The roar is immersive and the sheer volume of water — fed by snowmelt from the surrounding mountains — creates a visceral, almost overwhelming sensory experience. Surrounding spruce forests and bare mountain walls frame the cascade, amplifying its drama. In summer months, a theatrical element sometimes accompanies the stop, adding a folkloric dimension to the visit. Whether seen from the train window or the platform, the waterfall commands attention as one of Norway's most striking natural curtains of white water.
