Kaeng Sopha waterfall — Thailand
A broad, multi-tiered cascade in the forested hills of northern Thailand, swelling spectacularly during monsoon season.
About this spectacle
Kaeng Sopha is a multi-tiered waterfall set within the forested hills of Nakhon Thai District in Phitsanulok Province, northern Thailand. Visitors encounter cascading rapids and stepped stone shelves where water tumbles in broad, shallow curtains rather than a single dramatic plunge. The surrounding dipterocarp and mixed deciduous forest creates a green canopy that filters light and cools the air, making the site feel refreshingly shaded even on warm days. The sound of rushing water is constant and immersive. In the wet season the flow swells dramatically, turning the rapids white and forceful; in the dry season clearer pools form between the rock tiers, inviting waders. Birdlife in the surrounding forest adds an auditory backdrop. The site sits within Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park territory and is one of the more photogenic and accessible natural water features in this part of northern Thailand.
