About this spectacle

Cheonwwangbong, the second-highest peak in South Korea at the summit of Jirisan, offers one of the country's most celebrated mountain sunrise experiences. Arriving before dawn, visitors stand above a sea of clouds that often fills the valleys below, watching the sky transition from deep indigo through vivid oranges and reds as the sun breaches the horizon. The wind at this exposed granite summit can be sharp and cold even in summer, carrying the smell of alpine air. In autumn, the surrounding slopes are ablaze with foliage, adding depth and colour to the panorama. The sense of solitude — earned through a challenging overnight or early-morning hike — intensifies the emotional weight of watching the light flood across Jirisan National Park's ridgelines.
