Irupu Falls — India
A tiered jungle waterfall in Karnataka's Brahmagiri hills, roaring to life during monsoon season amid dense evergreen forest.
About this spectacle
Irupu Falls, nestled in the Brahmagiri hills of Karnataka's Kodagu district near the Kerala border, is a cascading waterfall set within dense evergreen forest. Visitors hear the roar of water before they see it — the falls drop in stages over moss-covered rocks, surrounded by tall canopy trees draped in mist. The air is cool and humid, carrying the scent of wet earth and vegetation. During and just after the monsoon season, the volume swells dramatically, turning the cascade into a thundering white curtain. Wildlife — including langurs, deer, and various bird species — can sometimes be spotted in the forested paths leading to the viewpoint. The walk to the falls is short and shaded, making it a refreshing natural retreat. The scene is most dramatic at peak flow, when spray drifts across the viewing area and rainbows occasionally form in the mist.
