With over 5,000 Inca terns present alongside Humboldt penguins waddling across guano-encrusted ledges, Peruvian boobies roosting in dense columns, and South American sea lions bellowing from rocky shelves, the sensory experience is relentless: salt air heavy with guano, the overlapping calls of thousands of birds, and constant aerial activity. Watch for the Inca tern's piratical mid-air kleptoparasitism — a bird darting to intercept a booby or pelican and snatch a fish in flight. Morning light catches the white moustaches and red-orange bills brilliantly against the dark rock faces.
