Illilouette Fall Waterfall — United States
A powerful Yosemite waterfall hidden from the crowds, roaring through a granite gorge and best witnessed when snowmelt peaks in late spring.
About this spectacle
Illilouette Fall plunges into the remote Illilouette Creek gorge in Yosemite National Park, offering a dramatic cascade that relatively few visitors witness compared to the park's more famous waterfalls. The fall drops with thundering force during peak snowmelt, sending mist into the surrounding forest and filling the canyon with the roar of rushing water. The approach trail winds through mixed conifer forest, rewarding hikers with increasingly dramatic views of the granite walls and the fall itself. Because it lies off the main Yosemite Valley circuit, the experience feels more private and immersive, the silence broken only by the water and birdsong. In late spring and early summer the flow is most powerful, the spray catching the light in brief rainbows.
