Igidae Coastal Cliffs
Busan's wild sea cliffs where dark volcanic rock meets the Korea Strait, offering dramatic coastal geology and sweeping ocean panoramas.
About this spectacle
Igidae Coastal Cliffs stretch along the southeastern edge of Busan, South Korea, where rugged rock faces plunge dramatically into the Korea Strait. Visitors walking the Igidae coastal trail encounter a raw collision of geology and sea: dark volcanic and sedimentary cliffs scarred by wave erosion, sea stacks rising from turquoise water, and blowholes that erupt with spray when swells roll in. The path winds through patches of coastal scrub, with the sound of crashing surf constant underfoot. On clear days the distant silhouette of Oryukdo Island floats offshore. Wind can be fierce and salt-laden, and the exposed ridgeline offers panoramic views back toward the Busan cityscape. Dawn and dusk turn the cliff faces amber and rust, making the geology visually dramatic against the open ocean.
