Hopetoun Falls — Australia
A veil of white water plunging into a mossy rainforest pool deep in Victoria's Otway Ranges — one of Australia's most photogenic forest falls.
About this spectacle
Hopetoun Falls is a picturesque waterfall tucked within the cool temperate rainforest of the Otway Ranges in Victoria, Australia. Visitors descend a short, well-maintained boardwalk through towering myrtle beech trees draped in moss and ferns, emerging at a viewing platform where the falls cascade approximately 30 metres into a dark, reflective pool below. The sound of rushing water fills the gully, amplified by the dense forest canopy overhead. The play of filtered light through the rainforest foliage creates an atmospheric, emerald-green setting that rewards photographers at almost any time of day. The surrounding forest is lush year-round, though winter and spring rainfall tend to swell the falls to their most dramatic volume. The walk itself is short and accessible, making Hopetoun Falls a popular stop on the Great Ocean Road touring circuit, often visited alongside nearby Beauchamp Falls or the broader Otway fly treetop experience.
