Grossvenediger Peak
Austria's great glaciated summit offers a sweeping 360° alpine panorama across the Hohe Tauern — a high-altitude ice world accessible to prepared mountaineers.
About this spectacle
Großvenediger is the second-highest peak in Austria, a glaciated summit in the Hohe Tauern range cloaked in permanent ice and snow. Visitors who reach the summit are greeted by sweeping panoramas stretching across the central Eastern Alps, with cascading glaciers flowing down every flank and jagged ridgelines receding to the horizon. The ascent crosses crevassed icefields where the crunch of crampons on firm névé and the deep stillness of high altitude dominate the senses. In clear conditions the summit offers an unobstructed 360-degree view, with the feel of standing atop a frozen world far above the treeline. The approach typically begins from mountain huts, and the experience shifts dramatically with season — spring and summer bring longer daylight and softer light on snow, while autumn transitions the lower valleys into golden hues beneath the icy crown above.
