Franklin Falls — United States
One of Washington's most accessible waterfalls, Franklin Falls plunges into a mossy basalt amphitheater just steps from the trailhead — spectacular in every season.
About this spectacle
Franklin Falls is a striking waterfall tucked into the forested Cascade foothills of Washington State, accessible via a short trail through old-growth timber along the South Fork Snoqualmie River. Visitors walk through a cool, mossy corridor of Douglas fir and cedar before the roar of falling water announces the cascade ahead. The falls plunge roughly 70 feet into a wide amphitheater of basalt, sending mist drifting across the pool and soaking nearby rocks with a constant fine spray. In summer the trail buzzes with families and hikers seeking relief from valley heat; in winter a frozen curtain of ice transforms the falls into a glittering sculpture. The surrounding forest muffles outside noise, and the sound of rushing water fills the air completely. It is one of the most accessible waterfall experiences in the Pacific Northwest, requiring minimal effort for a genuinely dramatic reward.
