Florida Caverns
Florida's only publicly accessible dry caves, filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and glittering calcite formations beneath the Panhandle.
About this spectacle
Florida Caverns State Park offers a rare underground world in a state better known for beaches and wetlands. Visitors walk through dry limestone caves adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and delicate cave formations that have grown over thousands of years. The air inside is cool and still, a sharp contrast to Florida's humid summers. Guided tours lead through illuminated chambers where calcite formations catch the light in ivory and amber tones. Above ground, the Chipola River winds through hardwood hammocks and floodplains, offering a complementary natural setting. The caves are home to bats and other cave-adapted species, adding a living dimension to the geological spectacle. The experience is intimate — groups are small and the formations close enough to study in detail — making this one of Florida's most distinctive natural sites.
