Engstligen falls — Switzerland
Twin curtains of water thunder off the Engstligen Alp plateau above Adelboden, making this one of Switzerland's grandest and most accessible waterfall experiences.
About this spectacle
Engstligen Falls (Engstligenfälle) tumbles down from the Engstligen Alp plateau above Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland, forming one of Switzerland's most impressive waterfall spectacles. Visitors witness twin curtains of water plunging dramatically over a sheer cliff face, the roar filling the air as mist drifts across the surrounding meadows and pine forest. The approach trail from Unter dem Birg winds through alpine scenery, rewarding walkers with increasingly close views of the cascading torrent. At the base, the full scale of the falls becomes visceral — spray coats the rocks and creates natural rainbows on sunny days. The cable car from Adelboden provides access to the upper plateau, where the water gathers momentum before its final plunge. In winter the falls partially freeze into dramatic ice formations, while in summer snowmelt keeps the flow at its most powerful and photogenic.
