About this spectacle

Eastatoe Falls is a secluded cascade tucked into the lush hardwood forests of western North Carolina near the South Carolina border. Visitors follow a trail through dense canopy, arriving at a multi-tiered waterfall that drops over layered rock shelves into a clear mountain pool. The sound of rushing water builds as you approach, and the surrounding forest amplifies the sense of cool, shaded seclusion. In spring, wildflowers line the path and the water runs full and powerful from snowmelt and rain. Autumn brings fiery foliage that frames the falls in warm color. The site sees relatively light traffic compared to more famous Appalachian cascades, lending it a quiet, intimate character. Swimming in the pool below is a draw for warm-weather visitors, and the mossy rock faces catch soft filtered light ideal for long-exposure photography.
