Devon Falls — Sri Lanka
A powerful highland waterfall plunging through Sri Lanka's misty tea-estate hills, spectacular especially after the monsoon rains.
About this spectacle
Devon Falls is a dramatic waterfall tucked into the misty tea-covered hills of Sri Lanka's Central Province. Visitors standing at the viewpoint are greeted by a powerful curtain of white water plunging through layers of lush tropical greenery, with the roar of the cascade filling the cool highland air. The surrounding landscape is a patchwork of emerald tea estates and cloud-draped ridges that shift constantly as mist rolls through the valley. The falls are most impressive during and just after the monsoon seasons, when the volume of water surges and the spray creates fleeting rainbows in the afternoon light. The journey through winding mountain roads lined with tea bushes is itself part of the experience, arriving at a viewpoint that frames the falls against steep forested cliffs.
