About this spectacle

Chilnualna Fall is a multi-tiered waterfall tucked within the quieter, less-visited Wawona area of Yosemite National Park. The trail winds through mixed conifer forest, crossing granite slabs and offering glimpses of cascading whitewater as the creek tumbles down a series of steep granite ledges. Visitors hear the roar building as they ascend before emerging at viewpoints where mist drifts across sun-warmed rock. The falls are most dramatic in late spring when snowmelt swells the creek to its fullest, sending powerful sheets of white water crashing down the granite face. By late summer the flow diminishes considerably. Unlike the crowded valley floor falls, Chilnualna rewards those willing to hike with a genuine sense of solitude. The surrounding forest smells of pine and damp rock, and the granite landscape typical of the Sierra Nevada surrounds every step of the approach.
