Caves of Remouchamps
One of Belgium's most visited show caves, featuring a dramatic underground boat ride along a subterranean river through spectacular stalactite-draped galleries.
About this spectacle
The Caves of Remouchamps are a celebrated show cave system carved by the Rubicon River through limestone bedrock in the Ardennes hills of eastern Belgium (Liège province). Visitors descend into chambers adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, and calcite draperies formed over millennia. The highlight of the tour is an underground boat ride along the Rubicon — one of the longest subterranean boat trips in Europe — gliding through low arched galleries while reflected ripples dance across the cave ceiling. The cool, humid air carries the faint sound of dripping water, and multi-coloured lighting picks out the mineral textures of the rock walls. The guided circuit winds through formations of varied scale, from delicate needle stalactites to broad, flowstone cascades. Because the cave maintains a constant temperature year-round regardless of surface conditions, it offers a compelling retreat in both summer heat and winter cold.
