Caves of Hotton
An illuminated show-cave in the Belgian Ardennes filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and dripping limestone chambers carved over millions of years.
About this spectacle
The Caves of Hotton are an underground cave system located in the Ardennes region of Belgium, near the village of Hotton on the Ourthe River. Visitors descend into chambers adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, and other speleothem formations shaped over millions of years by water percolating through limestone. The air inside is cool and humid year-round, and the play of artificial lighting across the rock surfaces reveals intricate textures and colours — ochres, whites, and creamy yellows. The sound of dripping water and the hush of enclosed stone create a sensory experience quite different from the surface world. Guided tours lead visitors through passages of varying height, opening occasionally into larger chambers where formations cluster in striking density. The caves are a classic show-cave experience suited to families and casual visitors alike.
