Capri Faraglioni Stacks
Three towering limestone sea stacks off Capri's southern coast, including a dramatic natural arch wide enough for boats to sail through.
About this spectacle
Rising dramatically from the turquoise waters off the southern tip of Capri, the Faraglioni are three colossal limestone sea stacks that have been sculpted by centuries of wind and wave action. The largest, Faraglione di Terra, is attached to the cliff; the middle stack, Faraglione di Mezzo, is pierced by a natural arch wide enough for small boats to pass through; and the outermost, Faraglione di Scopolo, stands alone in open sea. From the water, the scale overwhelms — sheer pale rock faces dropping straight into water that shifts between jade, sapphire, and emerald depending on the light and season. From the Punta Tragara belvedere on land, the stacks glow golden at sunset against darkening sea. Seabirds wheel around the summits, and the rare blue lizard (Lacerta caerulea faraglionensis) inhabits the outermost stack. Boat trips threading through the natural arch are a quintessential Capri experience.
