Cape Flattery
The northwesternmost point of the contiguous US — where Olympic rainforest meets Pacific sea cliffs, sea stacks, and the open ocean horizon.
About this spectacle
Cape Flattery is the northwesternmost point of the contiguous United States, where the rugged Olympic Peninsula meets the open Pacific Ocean. Visitors stand at the edge of dramatic sea cliffs, watching waves crash into sea stacks, caves, and arches carved by centuries of ocean force. The air carries the sharp salt of the Pacific, and the sounds of crashing surf and calling seabirds fill the scene. Bald eagles and sea birds wheel overhead while sea lions and harbor seals occasionally haul out on offshore rocks. Dense temperate rainforest lines the trail to the viewpoint, lending a mossy, primordial atmosphere. On clear days, Vancouver Island is visible across the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the contrast of forested coastline, turbulent ocean, and distant peaks creates a genuinely striking panorama at the continent's edge.
