Cap d'Erquy
A Breton headland of rose-pink quartzite cliffs plunging into the Atlantic, with sweeping bay views and wild heathland.
About this spectacle
Cap d'Erquy juts boldly into the English Channel on the Côtes-d'Armor coast of Brittany, a dramatic headland sculpted from rose-pink quartzite and sandstone cliffs that glow warmly in the Atlantic light. Visitors walk along clifftop paths where the land drops sharply to the sea, revealing sweeping views of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, hidden coves, and small sandy beaches hemmed by heath and gorse. The layered rock formations display striking geological history, with tilted strata and ancient stone visible at every turn. Coastal winds carry the scent of salt and heather, while seabirds wheel overhead. At dusk the pink stone catches the last light in a way that rewards any photographer. The surrounding heathland, painted purple in late summer, adds colour and texture to the already dramatic coastal panorama. A network of footpaths allows visitors to explore at their own pace along one of Brittany's most impressive stretches of wild coastline.
